Transportation Planner | Full-time, Permanent, Atlanta, GA

Job Description 

Modern Mobility Partners, a female and minority-owned transportation planning and traffic engineering firm founded in January 2018, is looking for a Transportation Planner with  

interest in short- and long-range transportation and transit planning, data analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping, and emerging technologies, including connected and autonomous vehicles.   

This position will assist our award-winning growing firm in the preparation of transportation planning studies, reports, and analyses across all modes. The individual will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team and to assist with planning and technical tasks for transportation and transit planning, project prioritization and performance measures, and funding/grant strategies.    

The individual will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team and perform planning and technical tasks for a variety of projects. Tasks may include but are not limited to:  

​ 

  • Assist with research and studies related to transportation topics including but not limited to emerging technologies, funding, resilience, safety, equity, and economic impact  

  • Collect, compile, review, and organize data for planning studies  

  • Data analysis, including revenue forecasts, return on investment, post-processing of travel demand data, calculating project performance metrics, etc.  

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping and analysis  

  • Assist task leads on project meeting materials and communicate project activities with project managers, task leads, and team members, and with clients, as needed  

  • Write and edit reports under the direction of task leads or project managers  

  • Assist with the preparation of PowerPoint presentations under the direction of task leads or project managers

Traffic Engineer | Full-time, Permanent, Atlanta, GA

Job Description

Modern Mobility Partners, a full-service transportation planning and traffic engineering firm founded in January 2018, is looking for a Traffic Engineer with interest in traffic operation analysis as part of planning studies, concept reports, and environmental documents.

This position will assist our award-winning growing firm in traffic engineering studies, reports, and analyses and on a variety of projects. Specifically, the individual will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team to complete a variety of projects, such as:

  • Corridor studies

  • Transit studies

  • Interchange justification/modification reports

  • Sub area studies

  • Design traffic forecasting

  • Safety studies and audits
     

Technical Expertise

  • Experience with traffic studies supporting planning, feasibility, and environmental documentation projects, including metropolitan transportation plans, corridor studies, IMR/IJRs, EA and EIS

  • Capacity analysis of intersections, corridors, and transportation systems of various sizes

  • Safety analysis of transportation systems including intersections, roundabouts, roadway segments, and interchanges

  • Microscopic and macroscopic modeling/evaluations

  • Utilization of HCS, SYNCHRO, Microstation, VISSIM, VISUM, CORSIM and SIDRA

  • Intersection Modeling and Highway Capacity Analysis (VISTRO, Synchro, HCS)

  • Design traffic forecasting

  • Interest in new and emerging technologies

  • Innovative and thinks outside the box

  • Provide oversight and review of traffic analyses including modeling inputs and outputs, technical writing, and compliance with federal and state traffic requirements

 

Preferred Soft Skills:

  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to work with other disciplines and modes (transportation planning, engineering, environmental, etc.) in both prime and sub roles

  • Ability to translate and distill complex technical concepts for stakeholders ranging from senior leadership to public and other stakeholders

  • Maintain and grow client relationships and leadership skills are important

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ Years of technical traffic engineering experience through private or public sector

  • Professional Engineer (PE) required, preferably Georgia PE or at least ability to obtain Georgia PE within 6 months of start date

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in transportation engineering or civil engineering

  • Familiar with MUTCD and AASHTO

 

Preferred, But Not Required:

  • PTOE certification

  • RSP1 or RSP2 certification

  • Experience with GDOT’s Intersection Control Evaluation (ICE) Analyses

Traffic Engineer

Senior Modeler / Project Manager | Full-time, Permanent, Atlanta, GA

Job Description

Modern Mobility Partners, a full-service, female- and minority-owned transportation planning and traffic engineering firm founded in January 2018, is looking for a Senior Transportation Modeler/Project Manager with experience in travel demand modeling, transportation and transit planning, data analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping, and emerging technologies, including connected and autonomous vehicles.

 

This position will assist our growing firm in the preparation of transportation and transit planning studies, reports, and analyses. The candidate will have the opportunity to support senior leadership and lead projects/tasks and project managers (upon hiring) in the field of travel demand modeling, emerging technologies and autonomous vehicles readiness planning, transportation and transit planning, traffic and revenue analysis, project prioritization and performance measures, and funding/grant strategies. 

 

The individual will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team to complete a variety of projects. Tasks may include but are not limited to:

​

  • Manage tasks and/or projects, including developing and monitoring scopes, schedules, and budgets

  • Conduct project team and client meetings regularly and communicate on project/task status, schedule, and project activities

  • Prepare meeting agendas, meeting notes, project progress reports, and team action items

  • Prepare presentations to clients and project teams as needed

  • Coordinate junior and mid-level staff on assignments

  • Write, edit, and review reports and other documentation

  • Conduct technical analyses and/or quality reviews on staff technical analyses and/or writing. Technical analyses and quality review areas may include, but are not limited to:

    • Travel demand modeling, including development, scripting, validation, and application

    • Traffic and revenue analysis

    • Transit ridership forecasting

    • GIS analysis and mapping

    • Advanced data analysis (i.e., travel demand model outputs, NPMRDS, Transeach, socioeconomic data, RITIS, and more)

    • Traffic simulation modeling analysis

  • Identify planning tools for development

  • Identify challenges and opportunities and develop solutions that best meet the project needs

  • Manage, mentor, and train junior staff

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in urban planning, planning policy, or transportation engineering

  • Project and/or task management experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Travel demand modeling software experience, including Cube and/or TransCAD

  • Proficiency in ArcGIS

  • 6 years of professional transportation planning experience at transportation agencies or consultants at a minimum

  • AICP or ability to attain within 1 year or PE or ability to attain within 2 years
