Southwest Atlanta Arterial Rapid Transit (ART) Corridor

CLIENT: Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA)

Purpose of Project

The Southwest Atlanta study was conducted for MARTA as part of their General Planning Consulting Professional Services contract. This project aimed to develop and analyze the feasibility of ART along three corridors in Southwest Atlanta, and to identify targeted transit improvements to enhance the local bus service in the study area. The project involved assessing ART feasibility and identifying interim improvements along three corridors – Fairburn Road, Langford Highway, and Cascade Road.

Our Role on the Project

As part of a team, MMP led the following efforts:

  • Reviewing planned and programmed transit and bus stop improvements for each of the three corridors

  • Reviewing planned and programmed transportation infrastructure improvements for each of the three corridors

  • Developing a list of additional incremental improvements to the transportation infrastructure and bus stops such as, but not limited to transit signal priority, bus shelters, lighting, wayfinding, safe crossing treatments, and sidewalks

  • Delivering draft and final corridor improvement recommendations as part of a larger corridor technical memorandum
