Roosevelt Highway Arterial Rapid Transit Corridor
CLIENT: Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA)
Purpose of Project
The Roosevelt Highway project was conducted for MARTA as part of their General Planning Consulting Professional Services contract. This project aims to analyze and develop an implementation plan for an Arterial Rapid Transit (ART) line along Roosevelt Highway. The project involved creating Vissim and Synchro traffic models and analyses for existing conditions and future scenarios, including a No-Build option and the proposed ART alternative. The goal was to evaluate the impact of the ART line on traffic conditions and optimize signal timing to accommodate the new transit option.

Our Role on the Project
As part of a team, MMP led the following efforts:
-
Developed and calibrated a Vissim base model for the existing conditions along the Roosevelt Highway corridor from East Point to Palmetto, GA, including a spur along SR 74 to Fairburn, GA
-
Oversaw the collection of  traffic data including turning movement counts
-
Conducted design traffic forecasting for future conditions using collected traffic counts and traffic growth policies
-
Optimized signal timing and evaluating transit signal priority for the ART alternative
-
Prepared a technical memorandum summarizing the Vissim methodologies, process, and results of the traffic analysis
